These plants are wiry and rigid, and form loose clumps. Irregularly curved branches are composed of a series of cylindrical cells and short filaments that extend downward to attach to substrates. This seaweed grows on rocks covered in a thin layer of coarse sand in subtidal zones of inner reefs.
