Garacilaria sun-bleached at garden.
Because natural Gracilaria in Yoh Island can only be harvested in a specific season, villagers preserve this seaweed by drying it for year-round consumption. Gracilaria is dried by cleaning it, removing any tarnished portions and hanging it to dry overnight. These steps are repeated for up to 2 weeks, when the plant color changes from black to white. Once the seaweed has dried, it is stocked in an airtight bag to keep out moisture, and can last for several years.
