The branches of this species are compressed, characteristically annulate, irregularly and alternately divaricating, and bear clavate and short branchlets. The plants are pale pink and fluorescent blue, and form soft clumps on rocks or attach to other seaweeds in lower intertidal to subtidal zones along shorelines with moderate water activity.
